About the Great Ocean Walk

We have been walking the Great Ocean Walk for over five years and we still feel a bit smug that this is our office.  104km of beautiful wild coastline: some of the trail at beach level where a kick of a stone may split it open to reveal a fossil (Marengo Beach), some on beautifully sculptured trails with the water visible through a patchwork of mannagums (Parker Inlet) or the stunning Twelve Apostles on slow reveal as you undulate over sandstone dunes.  There are a couple of short sections of country road walking too:  some ridge lines you just have to go around!

104km long in its' entirety, The Great Ocean Walk has been designed to "step on and step off" at well placed access points.  You can complete the walk while enjoying the eco-comforts the bothfeet lodge has to offer.  Besides, doesn't everyone deserve a warm bed, great food and a great glass of wine after a day of hiking.

Some maps you see have The Great Ocean Walk covering 91km from Apollo Bay to Glenample Homestead.  Glenample Homestead is now closed so the track finishes near the 12 Apostles. The length of the track now is upto 104kms, and there is constant track realignment being done to make the  length vary a little.

Included as one of the 50 walks to do before you die, The Great Ocean Walk is a must include on your bucket list.

Self Guiding the Great Ocean Walk with bothfeet

The Great Ocean Walk has quickly become one of the world's "must do" trails. Since the Great Ocean Walk opened in January 2006, bothfeet has become synonymous with the ultimate way to experience this iconic walk.  Our enviable location at the midpoint of the trail (we are 45kms from the beginning and 45km from the end) makes us the perfect home base to discover a little or all of the track.

All the signage has been installed to encourage walkers to move from east to west.  As a licenced tour operator, we encourage this too.  This assist with track health and also reduces the likelihood you will pass people on the way.  Most days it feels like you have the track to yourself!

With a map, good directions (we provide both in our packages) and as long as you're relaxed in the bush, you can confidently self guide the trail.  We know how long it takes to walk every section and arrange a meeting time with you before you set off.  If you miss this meeting time by longer than an hour and we haven't heard from you, our emergency planning kicks in, and we come and find you.  Just in case of emergency, we have you carry an EPIRB satellite beacon.  If anything does go wrong, you set this off and we can pinpoint you using GPS co ordinates.

While we know our lodge is the best place to stay on the Great Ocean Walk, booking your walk with us also gives you the peace of mind that you have a professional team to back you up, just in case.  Hopefully you won't need this side of our service.
