Great Ocean Conservation Walks
 |
 |
We've joined forces with Conservation Volunteers Australia to offer a range of journeys for those who don't mind getting their hands dirty. Two days of toiling the earth, helping regional groups with Great Ocean Road based conservation projects, then day 3 is a guided walk with bothfeet. A little effort, a little reward. Our environment will thank you. |

About Naturewise
Naturewise is a program operated by Conservation Volunteers Australia that offers unique eco tourism experiences: visits to pristine regions with conservation activities. For those keen to contribute to the conservation of our environment, this is a holiday with a difference.
Project activities vary with each individual Naturewise location and primarily involve research, monitoring and easy ‘hands on’ projects. No experience is required to participate in a Naturewise program, though you should be reasonably fit and active and declare any pre-existing medical conditions at the time of booking.
Why has bothfeet joined Naturewise on the Great Ocean Walk?
The quality of the walking trail, its management and sustainability directly impacts on the environment we are to showcase to our walkers today, tomorrow and in years to come. So we want to give back. Joining with an organisation like Conservation Volunteers Australia who are already marshalling resources to undertake conservation work makes our efforts more directed.
bothfeet and Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) are advanced eco-certified tour operators, and these trips have been accredited as well. CVA is an award winning conservation organisation and we are delighted to be able to offer this exclusive opportunity for volunteers to stay at our lodge and contribute with us to the sustainability of the environment we make use of.
What sort of Conservation projects will I be doing?
This Otways is renowned for its diverse natural habitats from National Parks, coastal heathlands, tall open forests and rainforests to Marine Sanctuaries. Protecting these special places is critical to ensure the survival of our important and unique wildlife, including endangered and threatened species.
The Southern Otway Landcare Network (SOLN) is a community group committed to protecting the coastal catchment of the Southern Otway region. Your contribution during this Naturewise experience we help these local community groups to achieve important regional conservation outcomes.
Conservation activities range from season to season and typically involve indigenous vegetation restoration such as tree planting, seeding and removal of invasive weeds to improve habitat for wildlife, and making fire breaks to protect large pockets of biodiversity in the event of fires. Activities undertaken are consistent with the Southern Otway Landcare Networks business plan. The time spent over the two days participating in local conservation activities is approximately three hours each day.
