How old do my children need to be to do a walk?
Walking is a great activity based family holiday. Our trips are great exercise and good fun, and many of our guides come from an outdoor eduction background, so they are teachers without the kids even knowing.
As a general rule, children can walk as far in kilometres per day as they are years old (ie: 8 years old = 8 kilometres). With this in mind, we recommend the Great Ocean Walk for children 8 years and over. If your children are aged between 8 and 11 years/11months, we will suggest a private guide for you, so we can tailor an itinerary to suit the youngest legs.
We are comfortable having children aged from 12 years and upwards on our public departures. Providing they are active before hand, most teenagers are capable of handling a typical day on a regular departure.
Of course, you are always welcome to hire a private guide and have them to yourselves. Contact us for more details.
How much of the Great Ocean Walk is suitable for children?
The trail is 104km in total length with around 50% of it being suitable for children between the ages of 8 and 11. The easiest sections are accessible from Apollo Bay, Blanket Bay, Cape Otway, Johanna Beach and Princetown/the Twelve Apostles.
Does bothfeet offer child rates?
Yes. Our child rates apply to children aged 8 to 14 years inclusive and are 20% off the adult rates.
